Spotz listings

It is always difficult to think, on the spot, of a fun place to go hang on any given night of the week. Yes, you have your regular favorites but what about when you all want to go someplace different? You sit there thinking and thinking "what goes on in the cities on a (insert any day of the week here) night?" This can get as long and drawn out as choosing a movie in the video store. But have no fear we have come up with some ideas in advance to help feed the creative thought process for you. Here are a few suggestions to help you out:

Monday
  • Artist Quarter (7th Place and St Peter, St Paul) - Live Jazz & Open Mic Poetry and it's free!
  • Bunkers (761 Washington Ave. N) - The Combos if you want a tribute to the music scene from back in the day. Where the Mpls music scene musicians go to catch up with each other. Stick to small doses to keep lungs clear.
Tuesday
  • Giorgio's (25th and Hennepin Ave S) - Half price bottles of wine!
  • Chiang Mai Thai (3001 Hennepin Ave, Calhoun Square)- If you are in the service business you will bump into someone you know.
  • Times Bar & Café (201 E Hennepin Ave) - Cabaret w/Lori Dokken & Guests. Must have the fondue for two!
  • Jitters (205 Hennepin Ave - next to Times) - If you don't find yourself shaking your ass to 60's soul and RnB all night, then you (need Jesus)or(got issues, bless you).
Wednesday
  • Bevs wine bar (250 3rd Ave N) - Quaint atmosphere, enjoy the pizza and wine. Great chill spot, nicely lit.
  • The Local (Corner of 10th and Nicollet) - Back room (kissing room), & drinks. You can even play pool upstairs (shhh!! don't tell anyone).
Thursday
  • Champps (Eden Prairie) - Strictly for the sights; During football season, catch the groupies hangin' on the athletes.
  • Fuji-Ya - Sushi, sake in the bar, and sometimes chill to the sounds of DJ Wicked ( Acid -Jazz Funk, Soul & Latin Grooves).
  • Martini Blu (2nd floor Grand Hotel) Two for One Martini night!
Friday
  • Bellanotte - the best way to get into this restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night is to make dinner reservation, otherwise you'll be waiting in line b/c the bar scene is hot.
  • Barbette (Lake and Irving- Uptown) - This is also a great coffee shop if you are not in the mood to cocktail but their menu and beer & wine list are good too. Check out their calendar for DJ lineup.
  • Conga Latin Bistro (501 Hennepin Ave E) - Latin /American food, music, and dance. Don't be afraid of the Latin Groove, the staff instructor can teach you how to move.
  • Sophia's (65 SE Main St-Riverplace) - go for the food and stay for the live music featuring Dennis Spears
Saturday
  • Zeno Coffee & Dessert Bar (2919 Hennepin Ave) - Start your day with a cup of kona coffee & H&H bagels flown in from NY. Come back at night and enjoy the great food, wine, and decadent desserts (hint: come early to avoid the 20 minute wait). Sit outside and watch uptown come to life!
  • Dakota Bar & Grill (1010 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis) - The best jazz with wine to match
  • The Dinky Towner (412 14th Ave SE on 3rd Saturday) -DJ with live band, and spoken word. A slice of New York in Minneapolis.
  • First Avenue (701 1st Ave N) -Dance 'til you drop, VIP room, open 'til 3am.
  • French Meadow Bakery (2610 Lyndale Ave S) - Great organic foods and Half price bottles of wine to get your evening started.
  • The Front (15 NE 4th St) - For good funk, and 80's flashback.
Sunday Brunch (Recover)
  • Bryant Lake Bowl (810 W Lake St) - For when you are feeling a little rough around the edges. Check out up coming theater events while you are there.
  • Café Latte (850 Grand Ave) - You're fooling yourself, if you think you're only going there for brunch, because their decadent desserts are to die for.
  • Campiello (1320 W Lake St) - Great for morning mimosas on the patio and the food is great too - but you better be hungry because it is served family style.
  • Keys (1007 Nicollet Mall, Mpls or 500 N Robert St, St Paul Plus 3 other locations around the cities) - Great food, but get there early before the line gets too long.
  • Yangtze Restaurant (5625 Wayzata Blvd - just off 394-exit at Park Place Blvd/Xenia) Mmmmmm Dim Sum! If you have never tried this Chinese brunch you are in for a treat. Sit back and choose from many mini delights as the servers wheel them by your table. That's the way to recovery!
