Sara Beth Goldfine
Sara Beth Goldfine began her interest in the arts very early on but her talent for jewelry really blossomed during a jewelry making class at the University of Kansas. She began designing and making jewelry and selling it for extra money. From there her inspiration was continuous, producing many unique designs and shapes. Sara's light and invoking energy is captured in her work and the demand for her unique pieces continued to grow.
She officially started business six years ago and now her jewelry is available across the country as well as from her self-designed website.
Not only did Sara take time to talk to us at theskini but she is offering theskini readers a 15% discount on all purchases made from her website. Just type in "theskini" at checkout.
What is the most exciting thing to you about making jewelry?
The most exciting thing about making jewelry is that I am creating something that is unique. That is the reason I started making jewelry in the first place. I wanted to have my own style and be able to express myself in a distinctive way. The next thing I knew, my friends and family wanted their own "One of a kind" pieces too. Soon after that, I was selling my pieces to boutiques across the country, filling special orders, and now I have my own website, ( www.sbgdesigns.com ).
Everyone has his/her own style and I think that it is important to use your style to express who you are. I do this through my jewelry.
What do you mean by "Special Orders," and do you still do them?
Like I said, everyone has his/her own style, but not everyone may have access to express this style. By allowing my clients to "special order" exactly what they may want in a piece of jewelry, I am allowing them to express their own style.
Through the "Special Orders" page on my website, clients can select exactly what they want in a piece of jewelry. This is especially popular with weddings; whether it is the bride looking for jewelry for her bridesmaids or for the perfect set to go with her dress.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get inspired from so many things and people in my life; nature, weather, friends, family, different cultures. . .
What kind of material do you generally work with?
Semi precious & precious stones, glass beads, leather, sterling silver, gold & gold-filled findings.
You mentioned a piece called The Paisley. What exactly is this?
The Paisley is different than anything else out on the market right now. It is a concept that I created in which you can wear one piece of jewelry in over 20 different ways as a necklace and even a few ways as a bracelet. The name "Paisley" derives from the shape which is created when the piece is worn. Each Paisley comes with pictured instructions on how to change its' look.
How did you come up with the design?
I was just playing around, one day, with the concept of creating one necklace that could be worn in a few different ways. Instead, I figured out how to wear one necklace in as many different ways as I wanted to. I just came up with it while I was playing around.
What makes it so versatile?
The SBG Designs' signature clasp makes this an extremely versatile piece. I can't really say too much. People are just going to have to see for themselves!!!
Is it available now?
Yes, the Paisley is available in 6 different color combinations at www.sbgdesigns.com
As I do with all of my collections, the Paisley can also be special ordered in any color or stone combination. Even more, once you own a Paisley, you can keep adding on to your piece by ordering more strands and/or pendants. The pendants are used when the Paisley is worn as a lariat (there are over 5 different ways to wear the Paisley as a lariat). I'm telling you, this necklace will never get old!
What other products are coming up in your future?
I would love to take on more accessories, but for now I am going to stay focused on my jewelry and the further development of the Paisley.
If you were going to change career today, what would you like to do?
I wouldn't change my career. I love what I am doing right now and I honestly never get bored. There is still way too much for me to be exposed to in this industry. I'm just getting started. . .
